Native Brazilian author Ana Paula Markel attends a birth conference in Brazil and finds a group of “Brazilian love rebels” leading a social revolution that questions unnecessary medical interventions and embraces empowered birth.
Ana Paula Markel
Ana Paula Markel is a mother, doula, childbirth educator, doula trainer, birth diplomat and international speaker. Ana founded BINI Birth, a space for support and education for new families and birth professionals, on the principle that giving birth is an intimate, normal and highly individualized process that, when coupled with the right preparation, can be an incredibly positive and life-changing experience. Ana lives in Los Angeles with her husband and four children. Her first two births were cesareans, followed by two successful VBACs.
A bittersweet story of birth and death.
Listening to Michel Odent, Sarah Buckley and Pamela Hines-Powell, I think about the quiet midwife in the corner of a labor room. The one who’s knitting, attending to the laboring woman or older children, or simply sitting quietly.
