Louana George

Louana George’s call to midwifery started with the homebirth of her second baby in 1978. The call led her to childbirth education, nursing school and eventually licensed midwifery. She opened her own business in 1987 which provided homebirth services and well-woman gynecological care until 2006.

Reflections on the End of a Career

They say they’re sad about me leaving: Who will take care of them? What they don’t know is that the loss is mine as well. My patients—some hated me, some loved me, and some passed by me. And yet they are all part of me, part of my time, part of my heart. And I am sad, sad, sad to no longer have the opportunity to serve, to be loved, to be hated.
