By Jean Sutton and Pauline Scott

This succinct and thorough manual begins with brief descriptions of the occipito-lateral/anterior positions and the occipito-lateral/posterior positions. You’re then given an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the fetus and of the maternal pelvis and uterus, including information about the action of the pelvis and uterus during labor. Factors which can cause the fetus to present in the occipito-posterior positions are also discussed.

In the next section, you’ll learn how a fetus can be encouraged to rotate into the optimal position during later pregnancy, including recommended postures and exercises. Postures the mother should avoid at that time are also discussed, as well as postures she should use or avoid during actual labor. The third section of the book discusses mal-positions during labor and what to do about them, while the final section shares examples from actual births.

Understanding and Teaching Optimal Foetal Positioning features numerous black and white line drawings that  illustrate and illuminate the information in the text. This book is a must-own for anyone who works with pregnant women.

Paper, 69 pages.
